The DRILL ROD TOOL STEELS 06316152 is a precision-ground A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar intended for toolmaking, die making, punches, jigs, and fixture components. A2 tool steel is an air-hardening, cold-work steel known for its dimensional stability during heat treatment and good wear resistance. This bar measures 0.25 inches thick by 1.5 inches wide by 18 inches long and carries a weight of 1.91 pounds. The thickness tolerance is +0.010 to 0.015 inches, width tolerance is +0.010 to 0.015 inches, and length tolerance is +0.062 inches. It is supplied in the annealed condition and is suitable for machining prior to hardening. Machinists, tool and die makers, and industrial maintenance professionals are the primary end users.
This flat stock is suited for fabrication of custom tooling, blanking dies, forming tools, punches, and wear-resistant components in both job-shop and production environments. The 18-inch length makes it practical for cutting multiple smaller blanks or for use as a full-length tool body. A2 material is commonly selected when tighter dimensional control after hardening is required compared to oil-hardening grades such as O1. No welding or forging is recommended without appropriate pre-heat and post-heat procedures consistent with A2 tool steel handling practices.
Designed as a standard A2 air-hardening tool steel flat bar suitable for general toolmaking, die making, and precision fabrication applications requiring AISI A2 cold-work tool steel.
Machining and cutting of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists using appropriate cutting tools rated for tool steel. Material is supplied annealed; hardening and tempering must be performed according to established A2 heat-treatment procedures before placing tooling in service. Always wear appropriate PPE when cutting, grinding, or machining steel stock. Follow applicable shop safety standards and equipment manufacturer guidelines throughout fabrication.
