The DORIAN TOOL 73310182235 is a single-end carbide cutoff and grooving insert with an SGTN5 DASK25B designation from the Slot-Grip series. It features a 5.11 mm (0.201 inch) cutting width, a neutral lead angle, and a 30-degree relief angle. The insert uses a self-grip holding method, eliminating the need for a separate clamping screw. A PVD-applied TiN/TiAlN/TiN multilayer coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC lathes and manual turning centers performing cutoff and grooving operations.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and heat-resistant superalloys (S). It fits standard Slot-Grip series toolholders designed for SGTN5 inserts. The self-grip design seats the insert directly in the holder pocket without additional hardware, making changeovers fast during production runs. It is suited for both light-duty grooving passes and full cutoff operations on bar stock and turned components in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use with Slot-Grip series toolholders accepting SGTN5 style inserts. Compatible workpiece material codes include K, M, P, and S per the manufacturer designation, covering cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys.
Installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and all moving axes secured. Seat the insert fully into the Slot-Grip holder pocket and verify positive engagement of the self-grip geometry before resuming cutting. Inspect the holder pocket for chips or debris before each insert change to ensure proper seating and prevent premature insert failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's setup guidelines for overhang and coolant direction when configuring for cutoff operations.
