The DORIAN TOOL 73310172010 is a solid carbide, on-edge threading insert designed for cutting 60-degree V-form threads in both external and internal applications. With a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a neutral cutting direction, it mounts efficiently in compatible on-edge toolholders and delivers consistent thread geometry across a range of pitches. The insert carries a Titanium Nitride (TiN) PVD coating applied over solid carbide substrate, improving surface hardness and extending edge life when cutting steel and stainless steel. Machining shops and CNC lathe operators use this insert where thread quality and tool longevity are critical production requirements.
This insert is suited for threading operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in job shop and production environments. It supports internal threads from 5 to 24 TPI, covering a wide range of unified and metric-pitch equivalent thread families within the 60-degree V standard. Primary workpiece materials include steel and stainless steel, making it a practical choice for general machining and precision component work. The negative rake geometry and on-edge orientation provide stable cutting action and predictable insert seating during both roughing and finishing thread passes.
Designed for use in on-edge threading toolholders that accept TNMC-style inserts with a 43 insert size code. Compatible with operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces requiring 60-degree V-form threads.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or changing the insert. Ensure the countersunk clamping screw is torqued per the toolholder manufacturer's specification to prevent insert movement during the threading cycle. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before each installation to maintain accurate thread geometry.
