The DORIAN TOOL 73310155486 is a right-hand indexable boring bar designed for internal boring operations on lathes and turning centers. Built from steel with a 5/8-inch shank diameter and an overall length of 8.0 inches, this toolholder accepts diamond-shaped SCMT/CCMT-style inserts secured by a screw clamping method. The S-SCLC toolholder style provides a 5-degree lead angle and a neutral rake angle of 0 degrees, making it well suited for finish and semi-finish boring passes. Minimum bore diameter is 0.797 inches and maximum bore depth reaches 1.25 inches, giving machinists a defined working envelope for precision internal stock removal.
This boring bar is intended for use in metalworking and machining environments, including job shops, production turning cells, and toolroom applications. It is sized for lathe toolposts and turrets that accept 5/8-inch shank holders. The right-hand cutting direction suits standard spindle rotation setups. Compatible inserts measure 3/8-inch inscribed circle (9.53 mm) and 5/32-inch thickness, conforming to insert size code 32.52. Machinists performing close-tolerance bore work on ferrous and non-ferrous materials will find the fixed geometry and screw-held insert useful for repeatable edge positioning.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or new-installation boring bar for lathe and turning center setups requiring a 5/8-inch shank, S-SCLC style holder, and screw-retained diamond inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the lathe or turning center locked out before mounting or changing the toolholder. The 5/8-inch shank should be clamped securely in the toolpost or turret station with appropriate tool overhang minimized to reduce chatter. Always index or replace the insert with the spindle off and follow the insert manufacturer torque guidance for the screw clamp to avoid cracking the insert.
