The DORIAN TOOL 73310121485 is a scissor and straddle type knurler designed for use on manual and CNC lathes where repeatable knurl patterns are required. This tool accommodates workpiece diameters from 1/8 inch to 2-1/2 inches and produces right hand cut patterns using two knurl wheels. The rectangular shank measures 4-1/4 inches in length, 1 inch in width, and 3/4 inch in height, making it compatible with standard lathe tool posts. Overall tool length is 6-1/16 inches and overall width is 2-1/2 inches. The SW4 series designation identifies the shank and frame size for correct holder selection. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this knurler for grip surfaces on shafts, handles, and precision components.
This knurler is suited for production and jobshop turning operations where a consistent diamond or diagonal knurl pattern is needed across a range of part diameters. The scissor-and-straddle design applies balanced radial pressure to both sides of the workpiece, reducing deflection on slender parts compared to single-wheel bump-style knurlers. Included knurl wheels cover left hand diagonal and right hand diagonal patterns, giving the operator flexibility for combined diamond patterns or single-direction knurling without changing tools. It is used in metalworking environments on steel, aluminum, and similar machinable materials.
Designed as a direct-fit knurling tool for standard lathe tool posts accepting a 1 inch wide by 3/4 inch tall rectangular shank in the SW4 series configuration.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before mounting or adjusting the knurler in the tool post. Ensure the shank is fully seated and clamping screws are tightened to tool post manufacturer specifications before engaging the workpiece. Follow shop safety procedures when adjusting knurl wheel pressure and confirm correct wheel pattern selection before starting the cut.
