The DEWALT DW8318 is a Type 29 zirconia alumina flap disc designed for aggressive grinding and blending on metal surfaces. It measures 5 inches in diameter with a 7/8-inch arbor hole and runs at a maximum of 12,200 RPM. The fiberglass backing provides structural support during high-pressure work, and the medium-grade, 80-grit abrasive delivers consistent stock removal with a moderate surface finish. This disc is installed on angle grinders and used by metalworkers, fabricators, and pipefitters who need reliable performance on steel and stainless steel applications.
The DW8318 is suited for residential and commercial fabrication environments, as well as field welding and pipe work where weld cleanup and surface blending are routine tasks. The Type 29 conical profile increases contact area on flat and contoured surfaces compared to a Type 27 flat disc, making it effective for feathering welds, removing mill scale, and blending surface irregularities on structural steel and stainless components.
Designed for use on steels and stainless steel. Fits angle grinders accepting a 5-inch disc with a 7/8-inch arbor hole and a tool-rated speed at or above 12,200 RPM.
This disc is installed by a qualified operator following grinder manufacturer instructions and applicable ANSI B7.1 safety standards for abrasive wheels. Always confirm the grinder is unplugged or the power source is locked out before mounting or removing a disc. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and never exceed the maximum rated RPM. Wear appropriate PPE including a face shield and gloves during operation.
