The DEWALT DW1684 is a Power Ship Auger Bit designed for boring clean, accurate holes through dimensional lumber, beams, and engineered wood. At 13/16 inch in diameter and 17 inches in length, this bit provides the extended reach needed for deep boring applications in framing, rough-in work, and structural drilling. The auger-style cutting geometry pulls the bit through wood efficiently, reducing the effort required from the operator. It is a standard tool for electricians, plumbers, and carpenters who need to pass conduit, pipe, or wire through wood framing members during new construction or renovation work.
The DW1684 is suited for residential and light commercial construction applications. Its 13/16 inch diameter is a commonly specified size for boring holes used in wire and cable routing through wood studs and joists. The 17 inch length allows it to reach through doubled or tripled framing members without repositioning. It is compatible with standard 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch corded or cordless drills and right-angle drill adapters commonly used in tight framing bays.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use auger bit for use with 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch corded or cordless drill drivers in wood boring applications.
Installation of this bit requires a 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch keyed or keyless chuck drill. Ensure the bit shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened before operation. When boring through framing near electrical, plumbing, or structural members, follow applicable NEC, IPC, and IFGC clearance and protection requirements. Keep hands clear of the bit and maintain firm control of the drill, as auger bits can catch and torque the tool abruptly when breaking through the back face of a board.
