The DE-STA-CO 578 is a heavy-duty manual hold-down toggle clamp designed for vertical clamping applications in industrial workholding, fixturing, and fabrication setups. Built from carbon steel with a zinc finish, it delivers a rated holding capacity of 4,000 pounds (17,800 N) and a maximum mechanical advantage of up to 7.6:1. The straight handle moves through 129 degrees of travel, and the solid bar opens to 199 degrees, allowing fast workpiece loading and unloading without removing the clamp. The red straight handle provides a clear visual indicator and positive grip during actuation. This clamp is installed by machinists, toolmakers, and production fixture builders.
The 578 fits straight-base mounting configurations where vertical clamping force is required to secure workpieces against a flat surface or fixture plate. With 2.79 inches of clearance under the bar and a bar width of 1.26 inches, it accommodates a range of workpiece thicknesses in production or repair environments. The overall height of 11.04 inches and overall length of 8.62 inches suit medium to large fixture builds. It is well suited for welding positioners, drill press tables, assembly fixtures, and similar industrial applications where consistent, repeatable clamping force is critical.
Designed as an OEM-style hold-down toggle clamp for use in industrial fixturing, welding tables, drill press setups, and production assembly jigs requiring vertical clamping force with a straight base mount.
Licensed machinists, toolmakers, or qualified fixture builders typically install this clamp. Secure the straight base to a flat mounting surface using appropriately sized bolts through the base holes and verify that fastener grade matches the clamp load rating. Confirm that the toggle reaches full over-center lock position on every actuation before placing the fixture into production use. Do not modify the bar, handle, or linkage assembly, as alterations compromise the rated holding capacity and mechanical advantage.
