The DAYTON LAMINA 6-1222-822 is a ball bearing cage designed for use in precision die and stamping applications where controlled ball retention and consistent preload are required. With a 1.5-inch inside diameter and 5.5-inch outside diameter, this cage positions and retains hardened steel balls in spring-loaded assemblies. A ring thickness of 0.25 inches and a distance before preload of 3.4375 inches provide consistent engagement geometry. It is typically installed by tool and die makers or machine maintenance technicians during press tool builds or rebuilds.
This ball bearing cage is suited for use in die sets requiring controlled lateral guidance and ball retention. The 1.5-inch ID accommodates standard post sizes common in progressive, compound, and blanking die assemblies. It is appropriate for both new tooling builds and replacement in existing die sets during scheduled maintenance or tool overhaul.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement ball bearing cage for die sets requiring a 1.5-inch ID post guide with a 5.5-inch OD cage assembly.
Installation is typically performed by qualified tool and die technicians during press downtime with all energy sources locked and tagged out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the die set is fully de-stroked and the press ram is blocked before removing or seating the bearing cage. Do not force the cage onto the post; verify ID clearance before assembly. Inspect mating post and die shoe surfaces for wear or scoring prior to installation.
