The DAIKIN 2MXM18AVJU8 is an 18,000 BTU/h (1.5-ton) multi-zone outdoor heat pump unit designed for R-32 refrigerant. Part of the Daikin Standard MXM series, it connects up to two indoor air-handling units to a single outdoor condenser, enabling true zoned comfort across multiple rooms without separate outdoor equipment for each zone. The system delivers up to 21 SEER2 and 10 HSPF2, making it a strong candidate for residential and light-commercial projects where efficiency ratings matter for energy codes or utility rebate programs. Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians with EPA Section 608 certification for R-32 handling.
The 2MXM18AVJU8 is suited for residential applications where two separate rooms or zones require independent temperature control from a single outdoor unit. Typical installations include two-room apartments, additions, sunrooms paired with a primary living space, or small commercial suites. Because R-32 has a lower global warming potential than R-410A, it aligns with projects targeting reduced environmental impact or jurisdictions moving toward next-generation refrigerants. The two-port outdoor unit accepts two indoor units simultaneously, allowing each zone to operate independently for personalized comfort.
Designed for use with compatible Daikin MXM-series two-port multi-zone indoor units as part of the Daikin Standard MXM Multi-Zone system family. Specific indoor unit pairings should be confirmed against Daikin's published MXM system combination charts prior to ordering.
Installation must be performed by an EPA Section 608-certified HVAC technician qualified to handle R-32 refrigerant, which is classified as mildly flammable (A2L) and requires appropriate tools, recovery equipment, and ventilation precautions. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power to the system before making any wiring or refrigerant connections. Follow all applicable local mechanical codes and the manufacturer's installation manual for line set sizing, outdoor unit clearances, and drain requirements. Do not mix R-32 with any other refrigerant.
