The CUTLER-HAMMER CUH-CS3 is a cold shrink cable jacket seal designed to re-jacket and seal the outer jacket of power cables in electrical installations. Unlike heat shrink alternatives, cold shrink technology uses a pre-expanded silicone or elastomeric sleeve that contracts by removing an internal support core, requiring no heat source during installation. This seal accommodates outside cable diameters ranging from 1.60 inches to 3.50 inches, making it suitable for a range of medium-voltage and low-voltage cable sizes. Licensed electricians and cable splicers working on underground, conduit, or direct-burial cable terminations and splices are the primary installers of this product.
This cable jacket seal is used in applications where a reliable, weatherproof re-jacketing solution is required over cable splices, terminations, or damaged jacket sections. It is part of the Eaton Cooper Power series, which targets utility, industrial, and commercial electrical distribution systems. Typical installation scenarios include manhole splice points, pad-mount transformer connections, and conduit entry sealing where maintaining jacket integrity is critical to system performance and moisture exclusion.
Designed as an OEM-style cold shrink re-jacket seal for power cables with an outside diameter between 1.60 inches and 3.50 inches, consistent with typical medium-voltage distribution cable sizes used in utility and industrial electrical systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified cable splicer in accordance with NEC requirements and the manufacturer's instructions. De-energize and lock out the circuit before working on any cable splice or termination. Cold shrink installation requires removing the internal support core in a controlled, steady motion - do not cut or rush the core removal, as this can cause the sleeve to misalign. Ensure the cable jacket surface is clean and free of oils, moisture, and debris before positioning the sleeve.
