The CRATEX 74 XF is a small-diameter surface grinding wheel engineered for precision material removal on delicate and intricate workpieces. It measures 7/8 inch in diameter, 1/8 inch thick, and features a 1/16 inch center hole. The wheel is constructed from silicon carbide abrasive grain bonded in a rubber matrix and carries an extra fine grade designation. The rubber bond provides a degree of flexibility and self-cushioning that makes this wheel well suited for fine finishing passes where surface integrity matters. It is rated to a maximum of 25,000 RPM. Machinists, tool and die makers, jewelers, and precision instrument technicians are the primary installers and users.
This wheel is designed for surface grinding and finishing applications across a wide range of industries and workpiece types. Stated compatible applications include aerospace components, control mechanisms, dies, electronic parts, instruments, jewelry, light castings, molds, plastic articles, and super sensitive scientific devices. Its small diameter and extra fine silicon carbide construction make it appropriate wherever tight tolerances, delicate substrates, or fine surface finishes are required. The rubber bond helps absorb vibration, reducing the risk of chipping or stress cracking on fragile materials during grinding operations.
Suited for use on aerospace components, control mechanisms, dies, electronic parts, instruments, jewelry, light castings, molds, plastic articles, and super sensitive scientific devices as stated by the manufacturer.
This wheel is typically mounted and operated by machinists, tool and die makers, or precision fabricators using high-speed rotary tools or die grinders. Always confirm the spindle speed of the tool does not exceed the 25,000 RPM maximum rating of the wheel before operation. Disconnect power to the tool before mounting or changing wheels, and verify the arbor hole diameter matches the 1/16 inch center hole. Inspect the wheel for chips or cracks before each use and discard any damaged wheel immediately.
