The CRATEX 408 C is a rubber-bonded silicon carbide surface grinding wheel designed for precision finishing and light material removal on metal surfaces. Measuring 4 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick with a 1/2 inch arbor hole, this coarse-grade wheel runs at a maximum of 5,250 RPM. The rubber bond matrix cushions cutting action, reducing chatter and allowing consistent surface contact across uneven workpieces. Green in color, the wheel is suited for tasks requiring controlled abrasion without aggressive stock removal. It is used by machinists, metalworkers, and maintenance technicians who need a reliable tool for surface prep and finishing operations.
This wheel is built for bench grinder and surface grinder applications in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and light industrial environments. Rated applications include corrosion removal, deburring, excess solder removal, heat mark cleanup, polishing operations, rust removal, scratch blending, surface smoothing, and tarnish removal. It fits standard 1/2 inch arbor spindles common to bench grinders and pedestal units in both shop and field service settings. The coarse grade makes it effective for initial surface conditioning before finer finishing steps.
Designed for use with bench grinders and surface grinders fitted with a 1/2 inch arbor. Suitable for corrosion removal, deburring, excess solder, heat marks, polishing operations, rust removal, scratch blending, smoothing, and tarnish removal as noted by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician. Before mounting, power down and lock out the grinder per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting, and never exceed the rated 5,250 RPM. Ensure flanges, blotters, and arbor hardware are in serviceable condition and that the arbor size matches the 1/2 inch hole before securing.
