The COOPER LIGHTING APEL is a two-head LED emergency lighting unit designed for life-safety illumination in commercial and institutional buildings. It operates on 120 or 277 VAC and draws only 0.78 watts during standby charging, making it suitable for energy-conscious installations. The unit houses a sealed nickel cadmium (NiCd) battery and a white thermoplastic enclosure that holds up to typical interior environments. Licensed electricians install this unit as part of a facility emergency egress lighting system, in compliance with NEC, NFPA 101, and OSHA requirements.
The APEL is applied in commercial, institutional, and light industrial settings where code-mandated emergency egress lighting is required. Its dual-head configuration allows each lamp head to be independently aimed to cover exit corridors, stairwells, open floor areas, and similar egress paths. The compact thermoplastic housing suits surface-mount wall installations. The unit is appropriate for new construction and retrofit projects where a low-profile, hardwired emergency light is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style hardwired emergency lighting unit suitable for commercial and institutional emergency egress lighting systems requiring 120 or 277 VAC input.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 700 and applicable local codes. Disconnect and lock out all branch-circuit power before wiring the unit. The unit requires a dedicated unswitched circuit to maintain continuous battery charging. Follow NFPA 101 spacing and aiming guidelines to achieve required minimum illumination levels along egress paths.
