The COOPER CROUSE-HINDS TP500 is a steel mud ring designed for use with electrical outlet boxes and device boxes in commercial and residential wiring installations. Mud rings, also called plaster rings or extension rings, raise the face of an electrical box flush with finished wall or ceiling surfaces such as drywall or plaster. This allows switches, receptacles, and other devices to mount cleanly and correctly once the finish surface is in place. Electricians install this ring during rough-in or finish work as part of a complete box assembly. The steel construction provides durability in standard wiring applications.
The TP500 mud ring is suited for use in commercial and residential electrical installations where a box face extension is required to accommodate finished wall surfaces. It is commonly installed in new construction and renovation projects where drywall, tile backer, or plaster adds depth over the face of a flush-mounted electrical box. Electrical contractors and finish electricians use mud rings to bring device mounting positions to the correct finished surface depth before device and cover plate installation.
Designed as an OEM-style accessory for use with compatible electrical outlet and device boxes requiring a mud ring extension in standard residential and commercial wiring applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize the circuit and verify power is off at the panel before working on any electrical box assembly. Mud rings are typically secured to the box with machine screws before or after wall finishing, depending on the installation sequence. Do not overtighten fasteners, as this may deform the ring or strip box threads.
