The COLLIS TOOL 73000 is a Morse Taper drill driver designed to accept a Letter V size drill bit in an MT3 outside taper shank configuration. The driver provides a 1/4 inch projection and is engineered to accept a drill tang thickness of 0.239 to 0.243 inches. This type of tooling is used in drill presses, milling machines, and lathes equipped with a No. 3 Morse Taper spindle. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals install this driver when they need to run a tanged drill bit directly in a machine spindle without a chuck.
This driver fits applications where a Letter V drill - with a decimal size of 0.3770 inches - must be driven at depth in a machine spindle that accepts an MT3 taper. The 1-1/4 inch drill depth spec makes it suited to controlled drilling operations on metalworking equipment in production shops, maintenance facilities, and machine shops. It is not designed for hand-held or portable drilling applications.
Designed as a direct-fit drill driver for machine spindles with a No. 3 Morse Taper (MT3) bore, compatible with Letter V tanged drill bits having a tang thickness of 0.239 to 0.243 inches.
Installation is performed by a machinist or qualified maintenance technician. The machine spindle must be brought to a full stop and the machine powered down before inserting or removing the taper driver. Clean both the MT3 taper bore and the driver shank of oil and chips before seating to ensure full contact and prevent taper slip. Use a soft drift and mallet against the tang slot to eject the driver - never pry against the cutting edge or the spindle face.
