The COLLIS TOOL 72425 is a split sleeve tapping driver designed for use with a 1/2 inch tap and an MT2 (Morse Taper 2) taper shank. It provides a positive drive connection between the machine spindle and the tap, allowing the tap to float axially and release when the cut is complete. The driver accepts a tap shank diameter of 0.367 inches and a tap shank square of 0.275 inches. Tap entry depth is 1-3/32 inches with a 1/4 inch projection. Machinists and tool and die technicians install this driver in drill presses, milling machines, and tapping machines where controlled thread-cutting operations are required.
This tapping driver is suited for production and maintenance machine shops performing internal thread operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The MT2 shank fits directly into any machine spindle or tailstock with a matching Morse Taper 2 socket, making it a common choice for bench drill presses and manual mill setups. It is appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole tapping applications where tap float compensation is needed to prevent tap breakage.
Designed as an OEM-style tapping driver for use with 1/2 inch taps in machine spindles equipped with a Morse Taper 2 (MT2) socket.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before mounting or removing the tapping driver. Insert the MT2 shank fully into the spindle or tailstock socket and secure per the machine manufacturer's procedure. Verify tap shank square engagement in the split sleeve before operating to ensure proper drive and axial float function.
