The COLLIS TOOL 72421 is an MT2 taper shank split sleeve tapping driver designed for machine tapping operations in drill press and milling machine setups. It accepts a 5/16 inch tap with a tap entry depth of 1 inch and provides 1/4 inch projection. The tap shank diameter is 0.318 inches and the tap shank square measures 0.238 inches. This driver uses a split sleeve design to grip the tap shank securely during tapping cycles. It is installed and used by machinists and tool and die professionals working with standard MT2-spindle equipment.
This tapping driver is suited for production and job-shop environments where repeatable tapping depth and positive tap drive are required. The MT2 taper shank mounts directly into any machine spindle with a matching Morse Taper No. 2 socket, making it compatible with a wide range of drill presses, turret mills, and knee mills. The split sleeve mechanism allows for quick tap changes without special tooling, supporting efficient workflow in both prototype and production runs.
Designed for use with machine spindles featuring a Morse Taper No. 2 (MT2) socket, compatible with standard 5/16 inch taps having a 0.318 inch shank diameter and 0.238 inch shank square.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom professionals. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the MT2 shank. Clean the taper bore and shank with a lint-free cloth before insertion to ensure full taper contact and prevent chatter. Verify tap shank dimensions match the split sleeve before beginning a tapping cycle.
