The COLLIS TOOL 72271 is a drill driver designed with an MT2 outside Morse taper shank for use in drill press spindles and milling machine quills that accept a No. 2 Morse taper. The driver features a 1/4 inch projection and accommodates a drill tang thickness range of 0.118 to 0.122 inches. It accepts a drill size of 0.2188 inches with a drill depth of 7/8 inch. This tool is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians who need a secure, repeatable drive connection between a taper-shank machine spindle and a straight-shank drill with a drive tang.
The 72271 is suited for drilling operations on knee mills, drill presses, and similar machine tool setups where an MT2 spindle is present. The drive tang engagement ensures positive rotational drive, reducing the risk of the drill spinning in the socket during cutting. Typical applications include metalworking, toolroom work, and production drilling where precise hole sizing at 0.2188 inches is required. It is packaged individually and sold in single-unit quantities.
Designed as an OEM-style drive tool for machine tool spindles with a No. 2 Morse taper socket accepting tang-drive drills at 0.2188 inches.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any taper-shank tooling. Insert the MT2 taper into the spindle socket with a firm upward seating force; never strike the drawbar or taper directly with a steel hammer. Removal requires a proper drift key through the spindle slot to avoid damage to the taper surfaces.
