The COLLIS TOOL 72253 is a drill driver designed for use with MT2 outside Morse taper shanks, providing a secure mechanical connection between a drill press or lathe spindle and a twist drill bit. The driver accepts a 11/64 inch (0.1719 inches decimal) drill and features a 1/4 inch projection length. It is compatible with drill tang thicknesses ranging from 0.09 inches to 3/32 inch, allowing it to seat and drive standard tang-style drill bits reliably. This type of tooling is used primarily by machinists and tool room technicians working on metal fabrication, maintenance, and precision drilling operations.
The 72253 is suited for machine shop and industrial applications where MT2-taper spindles are standard equipment. It is used in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines fitted with a No. 2 Morse taper socket. The driver provides a positive drive engagement for small-diameter twist drills, making it appropriate for production drilling, repair work, and tooling setups that require repeatable, concentric drill positioning at the 11/64 inch size.
Designed as an OEM-style drill driver for use in machine spindles fitted with a No. 2 Morse taper (MT2) socket, compatible with standard tang-style twist drills at the 11/64 inch diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the Morse taper driver. Clean both the taper shank and the spindle socket thoroughly before insertion to ensure full seating and prevent runout. Never strike the driver with excessive force to seat or release it, as this can damage the taper surfaces.
