The COLLIS TOOL 71301 is an MT1 taper shank split sleeve tapping driver designed for machine tapping operations in drill press, milling machine, and lathe applications. It accepts up to 8 tap sizes and features a 53/64-inch tap entry depth. The split sleeve design allows the driver to release the tap when the spindle reverses, protecting both the tap and the workpiece. A 3/16-inch projection and a tap shank diameter of 0.168 inches support accurate tap alignment during the threading cycle. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this driver as a direct-mount toolholder in MT1-spindle machines.
This tapping driver is suited for production and job-shop environments where machine tapping is performed on a drill press or knee mill with an MT1 taper spindle. The split sleeve compensates for minor misalignment and reduces tap breakage on through-holes and blind holes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Its compact projection keeps the tap close to the spindle nose for improved rigidity on short setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tapping driver for machine spindles with an MT1 Morse taper interface.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before mounting or removing the driver. Clean the MT1 taper bore and the driver shank with a clean cloth before seating to ensure full contact and accurate alignment. Follow the machine manufacturer's guidelines for drawbar torque and spindle lock procedure when applicable.
