The COLLIS TOOL 71174 is a drill driver designed to adapt straight-shank drill bits for use in Morse taper spindles. It features an MT1 outside Morse taper shank and accepts drill bits with a tang thickness ranging from 0.09 inches to 3/32 inches. The driver provides a 3/16 inch projection and supports a drill depth of 3/4 inch. This tool is used in machine shop, maintenance, and light manufacturing environments where a Morse taper spindle must be fitted with a small-diameter straight-shank drill. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers and users.
The 71174 is suited for drilling operations on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with an MT1 taper spindle. Its tang-compatible design locks the driver securely in the spindle during cutting operations, preventing slippage under load. The 3/16 inch drill size makes it appropriate for small-diameter hole work in metal, plastic, or similar materials in both job-shop and production settings.
Designed for use with MT1 Morse taper spindles on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines that require a 3/16 inch straight-shank drill driver with tang support.
Installation is performed by machinists or qualified shop personnel. Power down and de-energize the machine before seating or removing the taper driver from the spindle. Use a proper drift key to remove the driver from the spindle bore - never use excessive force or impact directly on the taper. Ensure the spindle bore and taper shank are clean and free of chips or burrs before seating to prevent damage to the taper fit.
