The CLEVELAND CONTROLS C42096 is a 2-flute square end mill machined from high speed steel, designed for precision milling operations in metal fabrication and machining applications. It features a 1/8 inch cutting diameter, a 3/16 inch length of cut, and a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank with a Weldon flat for secure tool holding. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute geometry promote efficient chip evacuation. Centercutting capability allows the tool to plunge directly into the workpiece. A 30-degree helix angle balances cutting performance across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This end mill is suited for milling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel in both manual and CNC machining setups. The stub-length configuration - with a 2-3/4 inch overall length - provides rigidity in tight clearance situations and minimizes deflection during light-to-medium material removal. It is a practical choice for tool rooms, maintenance shops, and production environments where small-diameter precision cutting is required. The uncoated HSS construction supports regrinding and reuse in standard machine shop workflows.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill for standard 3/8 inch collet or end mill holders used in vertical milling machines, machining centers, and manual knee mills. Compatible with cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and steel workpiece materials per Series HD-2 application guidelines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and tighten set screws against the Weldon flat to the holder manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, particularly given the small 1/8 inch diameter where deflection sensitivity is high.
