The CLEVELAND C73455 is a jobber-length twist drill bit in wire gauge size No. 27, equivalent to 0.1440 inches in diameter. Made from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers a clean cutting edge suited to general-purpose drilling in metal and other common materials. The two-flute, right-hand spiral configuration paired with a 118-degree split point and web-thinned tip reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements at the cutting face. Overall length is 3.0 inches, placing it in the standard jobber-length class used by machinists, maintenance techs, and fabricators across a wide range of bench and CNC applications.
The C73455 is built to NAS 907 Type A standards, making it appropriate for precision hole-making in aluminum and similar non-ferrous and ferrous stock where tight diameter tolerances are required. The tapered web and web-thinning treatment make it well suited to hand-held drill operations as well as drill press and machine spindle use in light-to-heavy-duty production environments. Flute length of 1.875 inches provides adequate chip evacuation for the depth range typical of jobber-length work.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement or production-supply drill bit for use in any standard 3-jaw drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.1440-inch straight cylindrical shank, consistent with Series 2228 tooling. Primary workpiece material rating is aluminum per supplier specification.
Secure the shank fully in a properly sized chuck or collet before starting the spindle. Confirm the drill press or driver is set to an appropriate speed for the workpiece material and bit diameter before engaging the cut. Inspect the cutting edges and flutes for wear or damage before each use, particularly when operating at production cycle rates. Dispose of dull bits rather than regrinding unless tooling regrind equipment and expertise are available, as improper regrind geometry will negate the split-point and web-thinning benefits.
