The CLEVELAND C71138 is a wire gauge size 38 jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling applications. It is manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating to improve lubricity and resist heat buildup during cutting. The bit features a standard 118-degree split point with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for easier penetration and reduced walking on entry. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 1.4375-inch flute length, this is a compact, precise bit suited for tight-clearance drilling in production and maintenance environments. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix clear chips efficiently. Licensed machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users.
This bit is built for general-purpose drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar materials. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 0.1015-inch diameter is compatible with standard keyed and keyless drill chucks found on drill presses, hand drills, and CNC turret setups. The 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate chip clearance for through-hole and blind-hole drilling at this diameter. The Series 2001G designation identifies it within the CLEVELAND standard jobber line. This bit is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 12 units per purchase.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.1015-inch straight-cylindrical shank, compatible with bench drill presses, hand drills, and turret-style CNC equipment used in metalworking and maintenance applications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance mechanics familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Always power down and de-energize the machine before changing bits. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for feed rate and speed selection at this diameter.
