The CLEVELAND C70354 is a No. 50 wire gauge screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in demanding production and maintenance applications. With a 0.0700-inch diameter, a 135-degree split point, and web-thinned geometry, this bit starts on center without a center punch and reduces thrust when drilling into alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose drilling where coating is not required. At 1-11/16 inches overall length, the screw machine format provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it a preferred choice in tight clearance and high-cycle drilling setups.
This bit is suited for light-gauge precision drilling in manufacturing, machining, and maintenance environments. The screw machine length is commonly used with drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills where a shorter, stiffer tool reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy. Primary workpiece materials include alloy steel and aluminum. The right-hand cut, straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without modification. It meets ASME B94.11M and NAS 907 Type C specifications, making it appropriate for aerospace and general industrial work requiring documented standards compliance.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use screw machine drill bit for standard straight-cylindrical chuck systems; compatible with alloy steel and aluminum workpieces as noted in product specifications.
This bit should be installed in a clean, properly sized drill chuck and tightened securely before use to prevent slippage and runout. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to maintain hole positional accuracy given the small diameter. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for steel workpieces to manage heat and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear regularly, as small-diameter high-speed steel bits are susceptible to breakage if feed pressure is excessive.
