The CLEVELAND C70342 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-speed steel performance in demanding production and maintenance drilling applications. Sized to wire gauge 38 with a decimal diameter of 0.1015 inches, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The web-thinned, parallel web configuration reduces thrust load and improves chip evacuation. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for general-purpose use across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed trades and production machinists use this bit where a stub-length tool is preferred for rigidity and reduced deflection in close-tolerance work.
The C70342 is suited for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials in both manual and machine-feed setups. Its screw machine length body, rated under Series 2330 and conforming to ASME B94.11M and NAS 907 Type C standards, makes it a fit for turret lathes, drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools where shank rigidity and short overall length matter. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard chucks without adapters. This bit is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 12 units.
Designed as an OEM-style screw machine length drill bit compatible with standard straight-cylindrical chuck systems on drill presses, turret lathes, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools requiring a wire gauge 38 diameter bit.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the drill press or power tool is fully de-energized and the chuck is secured before inserting or removing the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material when drilling alloy steel to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges and point for wear or damage before each use and replace if chipping or deformation is observed.
