The CLEVELAND C70318 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in tight-clearance and production drilling applications. Sized at No. 14 wire gauge (0.1820 inches), it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust when starting a hole. The web-thinned, parallel web construction improves chip evacuation and extends tool life under repeated use. At 2-3/16 inches overall length, this stub-length geometry provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for drill press and CNC turret work where deflection is a concern. A bright, uncoated finish is standard, consistent with ASME B94.11M and NAS 907 Type C specifications.
This drill bit is intended for production and maintenance drilling in alloy steel and aluminum workpieces. The screw machine length format is common in turret lathes, screw machines, and short-stroke drill presses where a compact tool profile reduces chatter and improves hole location accuracy. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters, and the right-hand spiral flute geometry handles conventional clockwise-rotating spindles. It is a heavy duty grade bit appropriate for shop floor and field service use by machinists and maintenance mechanics.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or production replacement drill bit for any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1820-inch straight cylindrical shank. Suited for use in turret lathes, screw machines, and short-stroke drill presses operating on alloy steel and aluminum workpieces.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance mechanics familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Power down the spindle completely before changing or inspecting the bit. Follow shop safety protocols for eye protection and chip containment when drilling metal.
