The CLEVELAND C70276 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-volume drilling operations in metalworking and fabrication environments. It is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish and features a 135-degree split point with web thinning for fast penetration and reduced walking on entry. The 29/64-inch diameter and shortened screw machine length body make it well suited for drill press, CNC, and turret lathe applications where rigidity and precision matter. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users of this bit.
This bit is intended for drilling alloy steels and aluminum in production and job-shop settings. The screw machine length format provides added stiffness compared to jobber-length bits, making it the preferred choice when working in short-reach fixtures, turret setups, or automatic screw machines. The right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes consistent chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole work in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Designed as a standard replacement screw machine drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and automatic screw machines accepting a straight cylindrical shank with a 0.4531-inch shank diameter. Compatible with primary workpiece materials including alloy steel and aluminum as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a compatible drill chuck or collet system sized for the straight cylindrical shank. Ensure the machine is powered down and fully stopped before inserting or removing the bit. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous materials to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance. Verify chuck runout is within acceptable limits before production use to avoid premature bit wear.
