The CLEVELAND C70262 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and mechanical assembly applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit measures 15/64 inches (0.2344 inches) in diameter and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and decreases the thrust needed to start a hole. The web-thinned construction and two-flute spiral design improve chip evacuation and cutting efficiency. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. At 2-7/16 inches overall length, the screw machine format provides greater rigidity than jobber-length bits, making it well suited for close-tolerance work on drill presses and CNC equipment.
This bit is rated as heavy duty and is appropriate for drilling alloy steel and aluminum in both production shop and field-service environments. The shorter overall length reduces deflection when drilling at high feed rates or in automated drilling setups. Licensed machinists, maintenance mechanics, HVAC fabricators, and plumbing and electrical tradespeople regularly use screw machine length bits when access is tight or when rigidity is the priority over reach. The C70262 conforms to ASME B94.11M and meets NAS 907 Type C specification, making it suitable for applications where standard compliance is required.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or production supply drill bit for any application requiring a 15/64 inch straight-shank screw machine length bit conforming to ASME B94.11M and NAS 907 Type C standards, including drill presses, CNC drilling centers, and hand-held electric drills with compatible chuck capacity.
Install and remove this bit only while the drill press, CNC machine, or power tool is fully powered down and at rest. Ensure the chuck or collet is tightened securely before operation to prevent shank slippage. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life, even though this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Inspect the cutting edges and point condition before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
