The CLEVELAND C70175 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in metalworking and light fabrication applications. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a gold oxide coating, this bit delivers enhanced heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. It carries a wire gauge size of 42, equivalent to 0.0935 inches in decimal, and features a 135-degree split point for fast, self-centering engagement with minimal walking. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.0935 inches in diameter and is compatible with standard drill chucks. Overall length is 2.25 inches with a 1.25-inch spiral flute in a regular helix pattern. This bit meets NAS 907 Type J specifications and is rated heavy duty for demanding production environments.
The C70175 is well suited for drilling aluminum and similar non-ferrous or light alloy workpieces in production, maintenance, and repair settings. The 2-flute spiral configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation, making it practical for through-hole and blind-hole work in sheet metal, plate, and structural components. The web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust requirements, which is beneficial when working with thinner materials or when using lighter-duty drill presses and hand tools. Licensed machinists, tool and die technicians, maintenance mechanics, and sheet metal workers are the typical end users.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production drill bit for use in any drill press, CNC drilling center, or hand drill equipped with a straight-shank chuck capable of accepting a 0.0935-inch diameter shank. Primary workpiece material compatibility listed by manufacturer is aluminum.
This bit is installed by licensed machinists or qualified maintenance personnel familiar with rotating cutting tool practices. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the drill chuck and verify concentricity before use. Always wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is clamped securely before drilling. Do not exceed the recommended cutting speed for the workpiece material and bit diameter; consult published feeds-and-speeds tables for M42 cobalt tooling when setting up production runs.
