The CLEVELAND C70074 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for production drilling in metal fabrication and maintenance applications. Built to M42 cobalt high-speed steel material grade, this bit delivers heat resistance and edge retention under high-speed or interrupted cutting conditions. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force required, making it practical for use on curved or finished surfaces. At 2.4 inches overall length with a 1.299-inch flute length, it fits standard jobber-length chucks and drill presses. A gold oxide finish adds a light corrosion barrier and helps identify cobalt grade at a glance. This bit is installed and used by machinists, pipefitters, HVAC sheet metal technicians, and general maintenance trades.
The C70074 is sized at 2.7 mm (0.1063 inches) diameter and is rated for drilling aluminum as its primary workpiece material, though the M42 cobalt construction also suits stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and other work-hardening materials encountered in trade service work. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard keyless or keyed chucks without modification. The regular spiral flute geometry clears chips consistently in through-hole and blind-hole applications. Meets NAS 907 Type J specification for dimensional and performance standards.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement drill bit for use in standard keyed or keyless drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks at 0.1063-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece material rating is aluminum; M42 cobalt grade is also suited to stainless steel and work-hardening alloys. Fits drill presses, hand drills, and magnetic base drills configured for jobber-length tooling.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should verify chuck capacity and spindle speed (RPM) before use; cobalt bits perform best at reduced speeds with consistent feed pressure compared to standard HSS bits. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and confirm concentricity before cutting. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace if the split point shows damage.
