The CLEVELAND C70072 is a cobalt jobber-length twist drill bit designed for production drilling in metals and other hard materials. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating, this bit resists heat buildup and maintains cutting-edge hardness through demanding, high-cycle applications. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows drilling to begin without a center punch. At 2.24 inches overall length with a 1.18-inch flute, it fits standard drill chucks and is suited for use in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers. Compliant with NAS 907 Type J standards, this is a heavy-duty grade bit for professional metalworking use.
This drill bit is sized at 2.5 mm (0.0984 inches) and is engineered for drilling aluminum as its primary workpiece material, though cobalt construction handles a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The straight-cylindrical shank provides secure chuck engagement without slipping under load. Its regular spiral flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation in both through-hole and blind-hole applications. Machinists, maintenance mechanics, pipefitters, and HVAC service techs working with sheet metal or structural components will find this bit appropriate for repetitive, precision-diameter hole work.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit for use in any drill press, hand drill, or CNC setup with a chuck capacity accepting a 0.0984-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Sized for the 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm diameter range per Series 2213.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify chuck key is removed before starting the spindle. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Maintain proper feed pressure to avoid work hardening, particularly in stainless or hardened alloys. Replace when cutting edges show visible wear or the bit produces oversized holes outside the stated diameter tolerance.
