The CLEVELAND C57620 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel with an oxide finish, it cuts a 1/4-20 UNC thread profile with a plug chamfer for standard starting performance. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the cut rather than packing them into the flute, making it well suited for through-hole applications where chip evacuation is critical. With a 2B class of fit and H3 thread limit, it produces threads within the tolerances required for most standard fastener assemblies. This tap is sized for production and maintenance work performed by machinists, millwrights, and tool-and-die technicians.
The C57620 is rated for use in cast iron and steel. Its 1 inch thread length, 3-flute configuration, and right-hand cut make it a practical choice for through-hole tapping operations on structural components, fixtures, and fabricated assemblies. The shank diameter of 0.255 inches fits standard tap holders and chuck collets used in drill press, CNC, and hand-tapping setups. It is a single-piece, right-hand tap with no coolant-through feature, intended for conventional cutting fluid application.
Designed for through-hole threading in cast iron and steel workpieces. Fits standard tap holders and collet systems accepting a 0.255-inch shank diameter. Part of the Cleveland Series 1011BO spiral point tap line.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder, drill press chuck, or CNC spindle rated for the required torque and feed rate. Secure the workpiece before tapping and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the base material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Do not reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine or holder supports reversing operation. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as a damaged cutting edge will produce out-of-tolerance threads.
