The CLEVELAND C57133 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in metalworking applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright finish, this 1/4-20 UNC tap features a plug chamfer and a 3-flute spiral point geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, reducing clogging in through-hole operations. The tap is configured for right-hand threading to a 2B class of fit with an H5 thread limit, providing consistent dimensional accuracy for standard fastener assembly. Overall length is 2.5 inches with a thread length of 0.63 inches. Licensed machinists, maintenance techs, and tool-and-die professionals install this tap in production and MRO environments.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel workpieces. It is a standard 1/4-20 UNC size used widely in residential and commercial equipment assembly, structural fabrication, and general mechanical repair. The plug chamfer style requires a started hole and is best used in through-hole configurations where chip evacuation forward is acceptable. Series 1011 from Cleveland is a general-purpose spiral point tap line targeting production-volume tapping across common workpiece materials.
Designed for through-hole threading applications in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel. Compatible with standard 1/4-20 UNC thread specifications per ASME B1.1.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC tapping cycle. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 1/4-20 UNC before beginning the threading operation. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Do not reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine or tool supports reversing to avoid tap breakage.
