The CLEVELAND C57130 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading in a range of common metals. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright finish, it cuts 1/4-20 UNC threads with a 3-flute, right-hand spiral point geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cut — keeping the flutes clear and reducing breakage risk in production or maintenance threading work. With a 2.5-inch overall length and a 0.63-inch thread length, it fits standard tap holders and machine spindles used in shop and field applications. This tap is well suited for licensed machinists, maintenance mechanics, HVAC and plumbing technicians, and electricians threading enclosure knockouts or mounting hardware.
The C57130 is rated for through-hole threading applications in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel workpieces. The plug chamfer provides 3 to 5 chamfered lead threads, making it the standard choice for beginning a thread in a pre-drilled through hole rather than a blind bore. The H3 thread limit and 3B class of fit are consistent with general-purpose fastener threads where standard tolerance hardware will be used. This tap is suited for both hand tapping and machine tapping setups in light manufacturing, field service, and maintenance environments.
Designed for through-hole threading of 1/4-20 UNC fastener threads in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel. Compatible with standard 1/4-inch tap holders and machine spindles accepting a 0.255-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed and used by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and trade professionals performing threading operations. Always secure the workpiece before tapping and ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 1/4-20 UNC threads before use. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and reduce galling. Do not reverse a spiral point tap in a blind hole — this tap is designed for through-hole applications only.
