The CLEVELAND C57104 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it cuts a 10-32 UNF right-hand thread to a 2B class of fit. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the tap and out through the bottom of the hole, keeping the flutes clear and reducing the risk of chip packing during production tapping. With an overall length of 2.375 inches and a 0.5-inch thread length, this Series 1011 tap is sized for standard machine tapping setups in both manual and CNC applications. The H3 thread limit provides controlled oversize tolerance suitable for plated or close-tolerance threads.
The C57104 is suited for through-hole threading operations in alloy steel, carbon steel, and aluminum. It is a practical choice for machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production environments where 10-32 UNF fastener holes are required. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads — allows the tap to start easily in a pre-drilled hole and is the standard choice for through-hole applications where the tap can pass completely through the material.
Designed for through-hole threading of 10-32 UNF threads in alloy steel, carbon steel, and aluminum workpieces. Compatible with standard tap holders and machine tapping chucks that accept a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool and die technician following standard tapping procedures. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled pilot hole before beginning the cut. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Reverse the tap periodically during hand tapping operations to break chips; in CNC or machine tapping, confirm that spindle speed and feed rate are matched to the tap manufacturer's recommendations for the material being cut.
