The CLEVELAND C55575 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading blind holes in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it cuts a 10-24 UNC thread with a plug chamfer and a 2B class of fit. The 52-degree helix angle pulls chips up and out of the hole during cutting, which is the core advantage of a spiral flute design over a straight flute tap. Thread limit is H3, keeping tolerances tight for standard UNC 2B fits. The shank diameter measures 0.194 inches and the overall length is 2.375 inches. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, HVAC fabricators, and field service technicians use this tap for tapping steel and stainless steel in production and repair applications.
The C55575 is suited for blind hole threading operations in steel and stainless steel workpieces. The spiral flute geometry evacuates chips upward, preventing packing at the bottom of a blind hole — a common cause of tap breakage in production environments. Typical applications include tapping sheet metal enclosures, HVAC equipment frames, electrical panels, and structural steel components where a 10-24 UNC machine screw thread is required. The right-hand flute and right-hand thread configuration is standard for conventional drilling and tapping setups.
Designed for tapping 10-24 UNC blind holes in steel and stainless steel. Part of the Cleveland Series 1093TN spiral flute tap line. Fits standard 0.194-inch diameter tap holders and collet chucks sized for No. 10 taps.
This tap is installed by a machinist or qualified tradesperson using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC spindle with appropriate feed rate and speed for the workpiece material. Always apply a suitable cutting fluid when tapping stainless steel to prevent galling and premature tool wear. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the tap is started perpendicular to the drilled hole to avoid tap breakage. Do not exceed the recommended tap drill size for a 10-24 UNC 2B fit.
