The CLEVELAND C55571 is a spiral flute plug tap designed for blind hole threading in ferrous metals, including steel and stainless steel. It cuts a 6-32 UNC thread with a 2B class of fit, making it suitable for standard machine screw applications where consistent thread tolerance is required. The tap is manufactured from high speed steel and features a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that improves surface hardness and extends tool life in production threading environments. With a 52-degree helix angle and fast flute style, it efficiently evacuates chips out of the hole during the tapping operation. Installation is performed by licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working with tapping heads, lathes, or hand tap wrenches.
This tap is intended for blind hole applications in materials such as carbon steel and stainless steel. The plug chamfer style provides a moderate lead-in of several threads before full thread engagement, making it appropriate for through-hole work and shallow blind holes where the tap can be run close to the bottom. The H3 thread limit designation indicates a ground thread tolerance suitable for Class 2B fit. With an overall length of 2 inches and a thread length of 0.38 inches, the C55571 is sized for compact fastener clearance holes used in machine components, brackets, and enclosures.
Designed for use in blind hole threading of stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces. Compatible with standard tap wrenches, tapping heads, and CNC tapping operations accepting a 0.141-inch shank diameter. Sized for 6-32 UNC thread applications requiring a 2B class of fit.
Tapping operations should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with proper speeds, feeds, and lubrication for the workpiece material. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound when threading stainless steel or hardened steels to prevent galling and premature wear. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the drilled pilot hole before engagement. Reverse the tap periodically to break chips when working in deeper blind holes.
