The CLEVELAND C55418 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in metal. It cuts an M6 x 1.00 mm thread with a plug chamfer that guides the tap into the hole progressively, pushing chips forward to keep the flutes clear. Manufactured from high speed steel with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) finish, the tool offers improved hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS. With 2 flutes and an overall length of 2.5 inches, the C55418 is a compact, production-grade tap suited for machine or hand tapping operations. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance mechanics working with threaded fastener applications.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading applications in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. The plug chamfer style makes it best suited for starting in a pre-drilled through hole rather than a blind hole. The right-hand thread direction and 2B class of fit make it compatible with standard M6 x 1 bolting. The D5 thread limit designation indicates the ground thread tolerance, which is appropriate for general-purpose metric threading where moderate fit precision is required. The 1011TICN series designation is Cleveland's standard identifier for this TiCN-coated spiral point line.
Designed for through-hole threading in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. Suitable for use in machine tapping setups and hand tapping operations requiring an M6 x 1.00 mm, 2B class of fit thread.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance mechanics using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC tapping machine. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pre-drilled hole is the correct tap drill diameter for M6 x 1.00 before beginning. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless steel, to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping after use on hard materials such as stainless steel.
