The CLEVELAND C55328 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading operations in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap cuts a 7/16-14 UNC thread to a Class 2B fit. The TiN finish extends tool life by reducing friction and wear during cutting. With a plug chamfer and three flutes, the tap pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, keeping the flutes clear and allowing continuous feed through the workpiece. Overall length is 3.156 inches with a thread length of 0.880 inches. The H3 thread limit provides consistent oversize tolerance for reliable fit across production runs.
This tap is suited for threading through-holes in alloy steel, carbon steel, and aluminum workpieces. The plug chamfer makes it a standard choice for CNC tapping cycles and hand tapping operations where the tap can pass completely through the material. The right-hand thread direction and 14 threads per inch conform to UNC standards, making this appropriate for general mechanical fastener applications in manufacturing, maintenance, and repair environments.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, and carbon steel workpieces requiring a 7/16-14 UNC thread form.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists and maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid tapping cycle. Always secure the workpiece and ensure proper alignment before tapping to avoid tap breakage. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to improve finish and extend tap life. Do not reverse the tap under load without first backing off chips to prevent binding.
