The CLEVELAND C55232 is a 1/2-13 UNC bottoming hand tap machined from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. It features a 4-flute straight flute geometry designed to cut clean internal threads in both blind holes and through-holes. The bottoming chamfer allows threading to run close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it the right choice when thread depth is critical. At 3.375 inches overall length with a 0.94-inch thread length, this tap suits standard hand-tapping operations and fits common tap wrench square drives.
This tap is suited for threading operations in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The TiN coating extends tool life by reducing friction and improving wear resistance across these materials. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians use this tap for production and maintenance threading in both shop and field environments where a bottoming style is required to maximize thread engagement in shallow or blind-hole applications.
Designed for 1/2-13 UNC internal thread applications in blind holes and through-holes across alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces.
This tap is installed by a machinist or maintenance technician using a standard tap wrench sized for a 7/16-inch square drive. Always use cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent tap binding or breakage. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged tap can seize or produce out-of-tolerance threads.
