The CLEVELAND C55152 is a 1-8 UNC plug chamfer hand tap manufactured from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. Designed for cutting internal threads in both blind and through holes, this tap delivers consistent thread quality in a range of common ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The 4-flute straight flute geometry provides good chip clearance and cutting stability. With an overall length of 5.125 inches and a thread length of 2.5 inches, the C55152 is sized for production and maintenance threading operations where a standard right-hand UNC tap is required.
This tap is suited for manual threading operations performed by machinists, tool and die makers, maintenance mechanics, and MRO professionals. The plug chamfer makes it the standard choice when starting a tap in a hole that has a slight lead-in, handling the bulk of threading work in both blind hole and through-hole applications. The H4 thread limit and 3B class of fit specify a tolerance range appropriate for standard mechanical assembly fits in steel, aluminum, and similar materials.

Hand tapping should be performed with a calibrated tap wrench sized for the square drive on this tap. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before starting the thread. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce friction and heat buildup. Back the tap off a quarter turn periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage, particularly in blind holes.
