The CLEVELAND C55100 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in both blind and through-hole applications. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap delivers extended tool life and reduced friction across a range of workpiece materials. The plug chamfer style provides a balanced entry angle suited to most general-purpose tapping work. Overall length is 2 inches, with a thread length of 11/16 inches and a right-hand thread direction. Class of fit is 2B with an H3 thread limit, making it appropriate for standard tolerance fastener applications. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades install this tap by hand or with a tapping handle.
The C55100 is used in production machining, maintenance and repair operations, and toolroom environments where 6-32 UNC threads are required. Its straight-flute geometry suits blind-hole and through-hole threading in materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The TiN coating extends cutting life compared to uncoated tooling, reducing the need for frequent tap changes in repetitive threading tasks. This tap is part of the Cleveland Series 1002TN and is packaged individually.

Installation is performed by a machinist or maintenance technician using a tap wrench or tapping handle sized for the square drive. Secure the workpiece before tapping and ensure the starting hole is drilled to the correct tap-drill diameter for a 6-32 thread. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Reverse the tap periodically when hand tapping in steel to break chips and prevent binding.
