The CLEVELAND C54802 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting M16x2.00 metric coarse internal threads in both blind holes and through-holes. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this 4-flute plug-chamfer tap delivers consistent thread geometry under hand or machine-assisted tapping conditions. The plug chamfer style provides a gradual lead-in over several threads, balancing cutting load between the starting threads and the full-form threads that follow. With an overall length of 3.813 inches and a thread length of 1.81 inches, the tap is sized for standard metric threading work on a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
The C54802 is suited for production and maintenance threading in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and MRO environments. Its 6H class of fit and D7 thread limit make it appropriate for standard tolerance metric threaded holes where a close but not interference fit is required. It performs well when threading alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The Series 1002 designation identifies it within Cleveland's standard hand tap line.
Designed for use in M16x2.00 metric coarse tapping applications across alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces in both blind-hole and through-hole configurations.
Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with thread cutting practices. Always secure the workpiece and apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped before starting. Use a calibrated tap wrench or tapping head sized for the 9/16-inch square drive. Back off the tap periodically to break chips, particularly in blind-hole applications, and never force the tap against bottom resistance.
