The CLEVELAND C52184 is a cobalt square end mill built for cutting high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and carbon steel in demanding machining environments. It runs a 0.625-inch diameter with a 1.375-inch length of cut, a matching 0.625-inch straight cylindrical shank with Weldon flat, and a 5-inch overall length. The four-flute, right-hand spiral design at a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining rigidity. The M42 cobalt grade provides elevated heat resistance compared to standard high-speed steel, making this tool well-suited for harder workpiece materials and interrupted cuts. Centercutting geometry allows plunge milling as well as peripheral and slot cutting operations.
This end mill is designed for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual or CNC milling applications where tight tolerances and surface finish in difficult materials are required. The HDC-4C series targets high-demand cutting scenarios in aerospace, defense, and general metalworking shops. Its uncoated cobalt construction is appropriate for applications where cutting fluid or coolant is used to manage heat at the tool-workpiece interface. The Weldon flat shank provides positive drive retention in set-screw style tool holders, reducing pull-out risk during heavy cuts.
Designed for machining high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard 0.625-inch bore set-screw end mill holders and collet chucks used in CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the Weldon flat against the set screw in the tool holder and torque to the holder manufacturer specification to prevent tool pull-out. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts, and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material.
