The CLEVELAND C46156 is a single-end, 3-flute countersink designed for creating accurate chamfered seat profiles in carbon steel and cast iron workpieces. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide coating for improved lubricity and surface protection, this countersink features a 3/8 inch head diameter and a 60-degree included angle (30-degree centerline angle). The 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and quick-change holders. Right-hand cut geometry produces clean, chatter-resistant entry at the countersink opening. Machinists and tooling technicians install this tool in drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held power drills for deburring and fastener-seat preparation.
The C46156 is well suited for production and maintenance applications where consistent, repeatable countersink geometry is required. The 60-degree included angle matches common fastener head profiles used in ferrous metal fabrication, making it a practical choice for shops working with carbon steel plate, structural iron, and similar materials. The no-pilot design allows the operator to control positioning directly, and the three-flute configuration balances cutting speed with chip clearance in typical through-hole and blind-hole countersinking operations.
Designed for countersinking operations in carbon steel and cast iron. The 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and compatible quick-change toolholders that accept 1/4 inch round shanks.
This countersink is installed by a machinist or tooling technician into a drill chuck or compatible quick-change holder. Secure workpieces firmly before operation and set spindle speed appropriate for the material and tool diameter. Do not exceed the tool's design application by using it on hardened steels or abrasive non-ferrous materials not listed in the material application. Follow your machine tool manufacturer's guarding and feed-rate guidelines during all countersinking operations.
