The CLEVELAND C42698 is a 6-flute cobalt square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding material applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it holds up under the heat and pressure generated when machining stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and general steel workpieces. The cutter features a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 1.25-inch length of cut, and a 3.25-inch overall length. The 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining edge stability at elevated cutting speeds. This tool is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this type of tooling in vertical and horizontal milling machines and machining centers.
The C42698 is suited for milling operations on stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and steel in both job shop and production environments. Its straight cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accommodates standard end mill holders and set-screw style toolholders. The regular-length profile keeps the tool compact for general-purpose side milling, slotting, and profiling where extended reach is not required. The uncoated finish makes it a practical choice when regrinding or when coating is applied in-house after resharpening.
Designed for use in standard end mill holders and Weldon-style set-screw toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials include high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel, consistent with the HGC-4C series application range.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and tighten the set screw against the Weldon flat to the toolholder specification before running the spindle. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or wear before each use, and verify runout with a dial indicator after installation to protect both the cutter and the workpiece.
