The CLEVELAND C42306 is a 4-flute, high speed steel square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking applications. Built to the HG-4LL series specification, it features a left-hand cut with left-hand flute geometry and a 30-degree helix angle. The cutter is centercutting, allowing plunge entry into a workpiece, and uses a spiral flute form for efficient chip evacuation. Shank diameter matches the cutter diameter at 0.5 inches, and the straight-cylindrical shank includes a Weldon flat for secure toolholder engagement. This tool is sized for standard milling machine spindles and CNC machining centers used by tool-and-die shops and production machinists.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. The left-hand cut and left-hand flute configuration makes it appropriate for climb-milling setups or applications where right-hand tooling would create unfavorable cutting forces. The 1.25-inch length of cut and 3.25-inch overall length are consistent with regular-length tooling used in general-purpose milling fixtures and vise setups. It is sold as a single unit and is used by machinists in job shops, maintenance departments, and production environments.
Compatible with primary workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. Fits any milling machine or CNC machining center spindle accepting a 0.5-inch straight shank with Weldon flat toolholder.
Installation is performed by a machinist using an appropriate end mill holder or Weldon flat collet chuck rated for 0.5-inch shank tooling. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clean and free of chips before seating the tool. Verify left-hand spindle rotation or correct climb-milling setup before engaging the cut, as this tool requires left-hand rotation to cut correctly. Confirm workpiece is rigidly fixtured to prevent movement during plunge or peripheral cuts.
