The CLEVELAND C42099 is a double-end, two-flute square end mill manufactured from high speed steel (HSS), designed for milling operations on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. With a 3/16-inch (0.1875-inch) cutting diameter and a 9/32-inch (0.2813-inch) length of cut, this stub-length tool is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling where rigidity and close-tolerance work are required. The 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals in job shops and production environments are the primary users.
This end mill fits applications requiring a 3/8-inch straight cylindrical or Weldon flat shank. The stub-length profile provides added rigidity for interrupted cuts and short-reach operations in cast iron, aluminum and other non-ferrous alloys, and steel workpieces. The spiral, right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is compatible with standard vertical milling machines and machining centers running conventional right-hand spindle rotation. Series HD-2 tools are intended for general-purpose material removal where an uncoated HSS cutter is appropriate.
Rated for primary workpiece materials including cast iron (K), non-ferrous metals (N), and steel (P). Accepts 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical or Weldon flat shank tool holders. Part of the Cleveland HD-2 series of general-purpose HSS end mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following established shop practices. Secure the shank fully in a collet or end mill holder, confirming that the Weldon flat (if present) is engaged by the set screw before starting the spindle. Verify spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut. Never exceed the recommended depth of cut for the 9/32-inch length-of-cut range without confirming workpiece fixturing rigidity.
